HKSH Clinical Neuroscience Centre was established in September 2021, as a hospital based and one stop facility dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the central and peripheral nervous system.

Specializing in conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, brain and spinal tumours, aneurysms and AVMs, etc, our multidisciplinary team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, oncologists, collaborate to provide cutting-edge, patient-centered care in a supportive environment.
Apart from being a clinical service centre, Clinical Neuroscience Centre also dedicates its resources to training, public education and research with colleagues from the universities and public hospitals.

What is Clinical Neuroscience?
The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles and is responsible for receiving and analyzing various information from our environment and controlling our body’s responses and actions. It has a complex structure and intricate function but can be vulnerable to various disease processes. Timely assessment and treatment by a team of specialists with expertise in different neuroscience disciplines would be crucial to achieve accurate diagnosis and favourable prognosis.

Neurology
The HKSH Neurology Centre was established in 2014. It provides wide-ranging diagnostic and therapeutic services for different neurological disorders, including cerebrovascular diseases, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, neuromuscular diseases, epilepsy, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, headaches, and autoimmune neurological disorder.
Neurosurgery
The HKSH Neurosurgery Centre was established in 2021. It is a hospital based centre, with outpatient clinics, neuro-imaging facilities, surgical operation suites, wards, and other specialities geographically collocated within the same hospital compound. Such a set up facilitates intra-team and multi-disciplinary team collaboration, prompt access to state-of the-art technology, and enhanced patient journey, safety and outcome.
Neurophysiology Service
A wide range of neurophysiological examinations are conducted by well-qualified specialists, such as nerve conduction studies, neuromuscular junction studies, needle electromyography, autonomic studies, evoked potential studies and electroencephalography. These examinations are crucial to diagnosis of peripheral nerve and muscle disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve and other peripheral nerve entrapment, radiculopathy, plexopathy, peripheral nerve injury, facial nerve palsy, diabetic and other forms of hereditary and acquired peripheral neuropathy, myasthenia gravis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, progressive muscular atrophy, polymyositis and other forms of myopathy, as well as autonomic disorders.
