Dear Friends,
During your stay in the Hospital, you/your relatives may be worried about your illnesses and may need someone to talk to. Our Chaplains are always willing to offer spiritual counselling and emotional relief to you and your relatives. We also offer assistance in making religious arrangement when needed.

Chaplaincy Service
Chaplaincy service has been blossoming in most hospitals since 1984 as the local healthcare sector began to recognise the importance of "Holistic Healing" and "Holistic Care". Since the early '90s, Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital (HKSH) has been joining hands with Hong Kong Island Private Hospitals Chaplaincy Committee in providing free chaplaincy service to in-patients, their families and the Hospital staff. In the blueprint for the Redevelopment Plan in 2005, certain areas were designated for the Chaplain Office and consultation room.
In adherence to the motto "Quality in Service, Excellence in Care", HKSH has always been attending to the mental and spiritual needs of patients, their families and its staff in accordance with the concept of "Holistic (physical, mental, social and spiritual) Health" as defined by the World Health Organisation. With full support to Hong Kong Private Hospitals Chaplaincy Ministry, the chaplaincy services in HKSH set out:
- To provide supportive spiritual care to patients and their tamily members;
- To take care of spiritual needs of HKSH staff arising from their work or faith;
- To organise volunteer visits to hospital wards or home visits;
- To establish a community network of support with a focus on rehabilitation, family, churches and counselling;
- To arrange visitation skills programmes in church, e.g. communication and listening, holistic care for end-of-life patients and their families, emotional care for the bereaved, etc.
Chaplains take the initiative in a belief that the spiritual needs of patients are very important, e.g. issues relating to meaning of life, faith, hope, love and being loved, dignity as well as life-and-death issues.
Through the cooperation between chaplains, volunteers and churches, the chaplaincy service offers timely care for patients with empathetic listening, prayers, counselling services at times of loss, grief and bereavement. Rituals are also performed at the time of birth and death. With referrals to and connection with local churches as well as assistance from volunteers, chaplains can follow up on the spiritual needs of patients if necessary. 24-hour emergency services are also provided.

Hong Kong Private Hospitals Chaplaincy Ministry Limited
The Hong Kong Private Hospitals Chaplaincy Ministry Limited, founded in 1991, was organised and run by representatives of local churches and the Nurse Christian Fellowship of HKSH. In 1992, it became an approved charitable institution, providing services to six private hospitals and Cancer Rehabilitation Centre on the Hong Kong Island.
