HKSH Renal Dialysis Centre

Advanced Technology and Compassionate Care

Our state-of-the-art facilities and caring staff ensure optimal patient outcomes

Established in 1983, the HKSH Renal Dialysis Centre is managed by a well-coordinated healthcare team of nephrologists and certified renal nurses who are highly experienced in providing care to patients with end-stage renal diseases (ESRD).

ESRD is the stage in chronic kidney disease when a patient has a kidney that can no longer remove waste and excess fluids from the body and needs dialysis (or a kidney transplant) to survive.

Patients who are referred to us from a nephrologist will receive treatment at the Centre, which is well-equipped with state-of-the-art dialysis treatment technology and has the highest sanitary conditions and quality assurance protocols. Our services are also offered to overseas patients and their family members during their stay with us in Hong Kong.

Services

We provide both haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis therapy services to patients at the Centre, with

  • 13 beds, each with advanced equipment to ensure safe and effective therapy
  • Training and support for peritoneal dialysis inpatients

Haemodialysis Therapy

Patients are cared for by specialists trained in nephrology. Our nephrologists can order prescriptions for haemodialysis, while our certified renal nurses will be on hand to monitor the patient closely throughout the haemodialysis procedure. Our aim is to provide a safe, compassionate and comfortable environment for patients undergoing treatment.

Peritoneal Dialysis Therapy (PD)

PD is a continuous daily treatment that maintains the body in a relatively stable equilibrium state. Diet and fluid restrictions for PD patients are therefore less stringent than for haemodialysis (HD) patients. PD patients may also perform the therapy at home without frequent travel to the hospital, thereby minimising inconvenience.

Patients referred from the Hospital Authority

In October 2004, the Centre reached an agreement with the Hospital Authority (HA) to perform insertions of the Tenckhoff catheter or create an arteriovenous fistula or Gortex graft for patients from HA hospitals at a lower cost. Please contact our staff for more details.

Plasmapheresis

Plasmapheresis is a process for removing disease-causing protein molecules (e.g. antibodies) in the blood in which the fluid part of the blood, called plasma, is separated from blood cells by passing it through a filter (plasma filtre). The removed plasma is then replaced with plasma free of disease-causing proteins or albumin.
