Corneal Collagen Crosslinking (Xtra) with Refractive Surgery
Xtra is performed in conjunction with refractive surgery such as SMILE-Pro, LASIK, LASEK, PRK or Trans PRK, especially for candidates with thin corneas or marginal corneal conditions that may have an increased risk of degeneration after refractive surgery. The purpose is to strengthen and stabilise the cornea by restoring the biomechanical integrity of the eye and decreasing the chances of regression.
Xtra includes two major steps: riboflavin drops are applied to the operated eye after refractive surgery, and then Ultraviolet A light is illuminated for about 1-2 minutes.
