Refractive Surgery

Pre-operative Assessment

Am I a suitable candidate for Refractive Surgery on Cornea?
In general, suitable candidates include those who

  • Are 18 years old or above
  • Are in good general health
  • Have no autoimmune disease issues that may affect the healing of the eyes
  • Have no active eye conditions or infections which may affect the healing of the eyes
  • Are not suffering from severe dry eye syndrome
  • Have a stable glasses or contact lens prescription for the 6 months

To find out which type of refractive surgery is suitable for you, you should have a comprehensive eye examination by one of our ophthalmologists. During the examination, we will give you more specific information and answer any questions you may have. Since the examination is very thorough, it will take about three hours.

How to prepare for an examination?

  1. Make an appointment with our Centre for a complete eye examination and evaluation.
  2. Wear eyeglasses and stop wearing contact lenses before eye examination:
    • Soft lenses for 3 to 7 days
    • Hard or gas-permeable contact lenses for 1 to 2 weeks
  3. On examination day, you may experience blurred vision and increased sensitivity to light after receiving dilating eye drops for the examination. You are advised to bring your sunglasses and refrain from driving.
