Siemens Somatom Sensation Cardiac 64-Slice CT Scanner

The Siemens Somatom Sensation 16-Slice CT Scanner was upgraded to the Somatom Sensation Cardiac 64-Slice CT Scanner. Together with the GE Lightspeed 64-Slice Volume CT Scanner, the Hospital now has two 64-Slice CT Scanners. In 2005, these scanners were the fastest in the world. They scan all body parts and cater to all patients’ needs as well as produce very high patient throughput. 

Siemens Axiom Artis dMP Digital C-Arm

This C-Arm can be used for all fluoroscopic and angiographic applications, including interventions. Its large field-of-view makes it ideal for imaging of the body. A useful feature is its digital rotational angiography capability, which includes a 3D effect with dynamic subtracted image display and angle triggering. 

Siemens Magnetom Trio (3-Tesla) upgraded to Tim System

The Hospital’s Siemens Magnetom Trio (3 Tesla) MRI scanner is integrated with Tim (Total imaging matrix) technology to attain unmatched performance. For the first time, the Tim revolutionary matrix coil concept supports all applications in the 3 Tesla range without the need for patient repositioning – from abdominal, orthopaedic, cardiological to whole-body examinations in a local measurement field of 50 cm. 

GE LightSpeed 64-Slice Volume CT Scanner

With one sweep covering 4 cm, this revolutionary scanner enables fast scanning with a large coverage area and very high resolution. A CT coronary angiogram can be completed in 5–8 seconds, while scans through the thorax, abdomen and pelvis can be completed in less than 10 seconds. CT colonography now takes only 9 seconds versus 40 seconds previously.

Kodak DIRECTVIEW CR Long-Length Imaging System

This fully automatic seamless stitching software system produces an image covering an area of about 1 metre. It is useful for assessing and following up scoliosis which, if left unattended, can be debilitating and disfiguring. 

Siemens High Frequency Mobilett Plus

This new mobile X-Ray machine is mainly used for examinations in wards. 

EDAP Technomed Sonolith Vision Lithotripter

The new Vision Lithotripter provides more powerful and effective treatment in a much shorter time. Each treatment takes less than an hour, and the success rate is over 90%. 
 

Siemens AXIOM Artis dFC Cardiovascular Imaging System

It is equipped with the latest detector technology, including single plane C-arm, floor-mounted and 25cm flat detector. Its dynamic Flat Panel Detector technology, together with high frequency X-ray generator and automatic parameter setting, provides excellent image quality for diagnosis and intervention. The system is capable of performing digital rotational angiography, and is fully DICOM compatible for convenient network integration.

Siemens AXIOM Artis Multi-purpose Digital C-Arm

This new Digital C-Arm is available for all fluoroscopic and angiographic applications, including interventions. In late 2004, the system was upgraded with a state-of-the-art digital Flat Panel Detector technology, which delivers even more outstanding spatial and contrast resolution for enhanced diagnostic confidence.

ACUSON Sequoia 512 Ultrasound System Upgraded with New Features

One of the features of this system is its totally new Tissue Equalization Technology (TEQ™). TEQ automatically equalises tissue gain and brightness, providing a clear and reproducible image. New tissue harmonic imaging is also available for eliminating body wall artefacts and acoustic noise.

GE Centricity Enterprise Radiology Information System (RIS) and Image Management System

RIS ensures the accuracy of patient information, arranges scheduling and facilitates data retrieval, reporting and inventory management. GE Signa 1.5T CV/I, MRI Scanner Upgraded to Twin Speed with Excite System

The addition of Parallel Imaging techniques (e.g. ASSET) enables imaging at a very high speed. The installation of the Excite System improves speed from image acquisition to final image presentation. 

GE Senographe 2000D Full Field Digital Mammography Unit with Computer Aided Detection (CAD)

The Senographe 2000D is the first full field digital mammography system approved by the FDA. This instrument is used for direct digital mammographic image acquisition and is composed of an X-ray generator similar to that of conventional systems. Compared with previous mammographic units, it offers innovations such as a computerised control unit (with automated quality control) and a digital detector that replaces the film and screen. Benefits include a more effective X-ray beam absorption, resulting in greater soft tissue contrast and better digital image manipulation and storage.

CAD is a sophisticated tool that can identify suspicious lesions and assist radiologists in the early detection of breast cancer. As a result, our mammograms have become “double read”.

Siemens Somatom Sensation 16-slice Multislice Spiral Computed Tomography (C.T.) Scanner

Applications for our Siemens Somatom Sensation include whole-body angiograms, CT virtual colonography, and low dose CT thorax, CT urogram, triphasic CT scans of liver, pancreas and kidneys as well as conventional CT scans of brain, neck, thorax, abdomen and pelvis.

Johnson & Johnson Mammotome Stereotactic System

This is a computer-controlled vacuum system for directional vacuum-assisted breast biopsies. The device can allow accurate tissue sampling, and representative tissue can be obtained for histological assessment.

Kodak DirectView CR900
The KODAK DirectView CR900 is equipped with an automatic multi-cassette loading feature. With this installation, continuous viewing is possible. 

Kodak DirectView CR800, with KODAK DryView 8700 Laser Image Printing System 

KODAK DirectView CR800 interfaces with the KODAK DryView 8700 Laser Image Printing System. It is environmentally friendly because it does not produce any chemical waste.

GE DPX-NT (DEXA)
The DPX-NT (DEXA) measures the amount of bone mineral density, which relates directly to bone strength for the early diagnosis of osteoporosis.

There are 3 major advantages of this radiography and fluoroscopy system:

1. It can minimise X-ray exposure for all parts of the body
2. Its large matrix size (1024/2048) improves detail recognition and resolution
3. All images in the acquisition memory are automatically copied onto the hard disk for computer storage

The three features of this modular X-ray system include the following:

1. Ceiling mounted with motorised adjustable X-ray couch height
2. Electronic tomography for any part of the body
3. Automatic cassette size sensing function for protection of the patient against overexposure 
    

GE Signa 1.5T CV/I, MRI Scanner
This MRI scanner is capable of performing very high resolution whole body imaging at ultrafast speeds. Finely-detailed images of the beating heart are now obtainable in a few seconds, making it possible to perform a comprehensive examination of the heart within 30 minutes. Other outstanding features include vascular imaging, neuroimaging, prostate imaging and breast imaging.

ACUSON Sequoia 512 Ultrasound System
A main feature of this ultrasound system is its ability to produce optimised physiological and anatomical information simultaneously. It also has a harmonic imaging capability for superb evaluation of the gall bladder and abdominal organs in even very obese patients. Other capabilities of the Sequoia 512 include advanced Colour Doppler Imaging which gives information about the velocity and direction of blood flow, as well as turbulence often associated with stenoses or regurgitant flows.

Kodak Ektascan 2180 Laser Printer (KELP)
A daylight loading system, this laser printer can process MR and CT films under normal room-light, without the need of a darkroom. It is the first of its kind in Hong Kong.

LORAD Multi-care Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
Coupled with digital spot mammography, this biopsy device allows precise targeting of breast lesions on three independent planes. The localisation procedure is performed by positioning the patient prone on the table, with her breast immobilised. A digital mammogram is then obtained from which the X and Y co-ordinates of the target lesion are calculated. Using ±15 degree images of the target by rotating the X-ray tube, the Z-coordinate is also calculated. The abnormality can thus be stereotactically localised to allow for the placement of a biopsy needle or hook wire into the breast lesion. Available procedures include stereotactic fine needle aspiration (FNA), stereotactic core needle biopsy (CNB), stereotactic vacuum-assisted CNB, stereotactic large core breast biopsy using ABBI, and stereotactic hook wire localisation of breast microcalcification.

The first of its kind in Asia, this CT scanner has phenomenal speed of image acquisition. It can scan the thorax, abdomen and pelvis together in a single breath hold.

Toshiba Colour Doppler Ultrasound Scanner 140-A

An addition to our ultrasound acquired in 1994, this machine is equipped with cardiac software, which enables portable echocardiograms to be performed in wards. 

Siemens Magnetom Vision MRI system (1.5 Tesla)
This whole body MR Scanner can perform MR angiographies, turbo flash imaging and echo-planar imaging. 

Philips Compact Diagnost I X-Ray System
This X-ray system is used for general radiography and has a tomogram capability. 

Philips MD3 Multi-Diagnost C-arm X-Ray System
A multi-purpose system, this X-ray system has the extended capability of performing high resolution digital subtraction angiography, remote control fluoroscopic radiography and interventional procedures.

Kodak (6M) Auto Processor
This new automatic processor can develop one film within 90 seconds. 

Siemens Coroskop Hicor System
The Coroskop Hicor System from Siemens is a dedicated digital subtraction cardiac angiography system.

Philips Auto-alternators
This new machine enables doctors to select and view radiographs efficiently. 

Toshiba Colour Doppler Ultrasound Scanner 270A
A whole body ultrasound scanner, this machine comes with a Colour Doppler capability.

EDAP Lithotripter LT02
This new generation of lithotripters uses X-ray fluoroscopic and ultrasound for localising urinary stones. The success rate is almost 90%.

GE Senographe 600T Senix HF Mammography X-Ray Unit with Localiser, Collimator and Biopsy Paddle 
To meet the increasing need for early detection of breast cancers and lesions, this X-ray equipment can also perform needle localisation procedures. 

GE CT HiLight Advantage System
As the first of its kind in South East Asia, this system reduces radiation doses significantly, while its new X-Ray tube can perform more slices at one time than previous systems.

Kodak Ektascan 2180 Laser Printer (KELP)
A day-light loading system, this printer allows MR and CT films to be processed under room-light without the need of a darkroom. It is the first of its kind in Hong Kong.
