Paediatric Haematology & Oncology

Paediatric chemotherapy refers to the use of cytotoxic drugs in treating childhood cancers, such as acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, acute myeloid leukaemia, lymphomas (Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin), brain tumours, neuroblastoma and Wilms tumour. Often combined with surgery, radiotherapy or targeted therapy, chemotherapy is effective in improving clinical outcomes and survival rates of most paediatric cancer cases. 

For paediatric cancer patients, chemotherapy is administered orally, intravenously or intrathecally in cycles, with standard protocols based on cancer type and regimens tailored to child’s age, weight and health status. While it affects both cancer cells and healthy cells, short-term side effects like nausea, vomiting, hair loss, infections and fatigue are often preventable or manageable with supportive and psychosocial care throughout the patient journey.
