Gastroscopy
Gastroscopy is performed to diagnose and treat problems of the upper digestive tract – the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum.
It is useful for the diagnosis of:
- Reflux oesophagitis
- Peptic ulcers
- Cancer of the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum
- H. pylori bacterial infections
- Gastric ulcers
- Other upper gastrointestinal tract pathologies such as polyps and varices
Therapeutic interventions:
- Removal of polyps
- Metal stenting dilatation, e.g. for oesophageal cancer patients
- Management of gastrointestinal bleeding
- Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy
- Endoscopic submucosal dissection
- Endoscopic injection sclerotherapy and band ligation for oesophageal varices
- Intragastric balloon therapy for weight loss
- Endoscopic Mucosal Resection
- Radiofrequency Ablation
