Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)

Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) is an advanced, minimally invasive airway diagnostic technology that combines endoscopy with ultrasound. By equipping the tip of a conventional bronchoscope with a miniature ultrasound probe or mini-probe, it allows physicians to inspect the inside of the trachea while simultaneously detecting tumors or lymph nodes outside the bronchial wall in real time. This significantly improves the accuracy of biopsy sampling and reduces the risk of bleeding.

 

Diagnosis 

Through Endobronchial Ultrasound-Guided Transbronchial Needle Aspiration (EBUS-TBNA), physicians utilize real-time ultrasound imaging to precisely locate and target enlarged lymph nodes or tumors outside the airway wall. By using blood flow signals (Doppler) to clearly identify and avoid surrounding major blood vessels, the physician can advance a fine needle through the bronchoscope, penetrate the bronchial wall, and enter the target tissue to aspirate cell or tissue samples.
