Medical Imaging
Your doctor will recommend the most suitable type(s) of scan based on your individual condition to get a clear picture of your breast tissue.
This scan uses sound waves to create images of the breast. It is painless, involves no radiation, and is often used to evaluate lumps especially in younger women and dense breast tissue.
This is a special X-ray using low-dose radiation for screening and diagnosis. The breast is briefly compressed to obtain clear images.
This scan uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create images. It is generally only used to assess high-risk cases or for detailed evaluation after a cancer diagnosis.
This combines images showing metabolic activity with anatomical detail. It is primarily used to assess if a known cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
Pathological Examination
If a scan shows an area of concern, your doctor may recommend a biopsy. This is a key procedure to take a sample of cells or tissue for analysis under a microscope to determine the exact nature of the finding.
Ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration cytology (USG guided FNAC)
Using ultrasound for real-time guidance, a doctor uses a fine needle to extract a small sample of cells from the area for testing.
Ultrasound guided core biopsy (USG guided core biopsy)
Under ultrasound guidance, a doctor uses a special needle （core needle） to take several small cores of tissue from the breast. This provides more comprehensive diagnostic information.
Mammogram guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (MMG guided VABB)
Used for lesions (commonly calcifications) seen on a mammogram. Guided by real-time X-ray images, a vacuum-assisted needle is used to take tissue samples. This may also completely remove very small lesions.
MRI guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (MRI guided VABB)
When a suspicious area is only visible on an MRI scan, this method uses real-time MRI images to guide a vacuum-assisted probe to accurately obtain a tissue sample for analysis.
