Your Safety is our Priority

Our team of specialists removes the pain and stress from surgery

Feeling anxious before surgery or other medical procedure is a completely natural response, and we understand that this often arises from concerns about anaesthesia. At HKSH, our highly experienced team of anaesthesiologists provide anaesthesia and pain management services in and outside the main Operating Theatre suite. They adhere to the highest standards of safety to achieve the best possible results for our patients, with minimal risk and discomfort.

In the Operating Theatre suite

The main operating suite at HKSH has 15 operating rooms, where we provide anaesthesia care for a wide range of surgical disciplines, including the following procedures:

  • Cardiothoracic surgery
  • Dental surgery
  • ENT surgery
  • Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic surgery
  • General surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Obstetric & Gynaecological surgery
  • Ophthalmic surgery
  • Orthopaedic surgery
  • Paediatric surgery
  • Plastic surgery
  • Urological surgery

Up-to-date monitoring systems following professional college standard are used to ensure the safety of all patients. We also have a fully equipped and staffed recovery area, where patients recover from anaesthesia before they return to the ward.

Outside the main Operating Theatre suite

Anaesthesia care is also provided to some patients undergoing procedures at the Eye Surgery Centre, Endoscopy Centre, Cardiac Catheterisation & Intervention Centre, IVF centre, Department of Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology, and Department of Radiotherapy.

Our services at these centres ensure the comfort and safety of patients who need anaesthesia or monitored anaesthesia care during procedures.

In the Labour Suite

Prospective mothers can find relief from pain during childbirth with the help of epidural analgesia. Knowing that they will feel little or no pain during their delivery, mothers will have less fear of the birth experience. They will also be able to rest during the first stage of labour and have more energy to care for their newborns.

For patients suffering from chronic pain, please refer to our Pain Management Centre.
