Proton Therapy｜HKSH Continues to Advance Development — World‑Class Technology Connecting China and Abroad

Twenty years ago, HKSH began researching one of the world’s most advanced forms of radiation therapy—proton therapy—but the effort was challenging from the start. We found that shortages of trained personnel and available land were not short‑term problems. Yet through persistence and innovation, HKSH overcame numerous obstacles and successfully introduced this cutting‑edge technology to Hong Kong.

Today, the first proton therapy centre in the Greater Bay Area stands proudly in the Eastern District of Hong Kong Island, staffed by a professional, established proton therapy team. As of early 2026, the centre has completed more than 700 proton therapy cases, treating breast cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, prostate cancer, paediatric cancers and others—providing patients with effective cancer management and precise treatment.
