About the School of Nursing

Learn with Diligence   •   Care with Compassion   •   Serve the Community with Excellence

Established in 1927, the School of Nursing of Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital was committed to ensuring a steady supply of qualified and professional nurses, all rigorously trained to meet the Hospital's requirements. Historically, the Hospital was the only private hospital in Hong Kong that offered Registered and Enrolled Nurse programmes in the School of Nursing and Midwifery training in the School of Midwifery.

Over the years, the School evolved through events that effected the development of nursing education in Hong Kong including the suspension of nurse training in 2002. Training resumed in 2004 in response to the need for enrolled nurses who were devoted to providing the best care that was consistent with the Hospital motto “Quality in Service and Excellence in Care”.

In 2008, an important milestone was reached when a 3-year (full-time) Master Programme of Nursing jointly organized by the Hospital and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University commenced for non-nursing degree holders.

Another milestone was reached in 2010 as the School became the first nursing school in Hong Kong to be approved by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) to conduct the Higher Diploma in Nursing (Enrolled Nurse General) Programme. With the Council’s accreditation of the Professional Diploma in Nursing Programme (Registered Nurse - General) for Enrolled Nurse in 2016, the School is able to map out a career path for the students as they embark on their nursing study and guide them towards achieving excellence in their nursing career.
