Radionuclide Therapy
Radionuclide Therapy
Theranostics
Theranostics is a new concept in strategic treatment of cancer based on quantitative and longitudinal targeted molecular imaging, using the same biochemical molecules as imaging and therapeutic agents. Firstly, tracers with diagnostic radioisotopes (F-18, C-11, Ga-68, Tc-99m, I-123, etc.) are used for tomographic imaging with PET/CT and NM SPECT/CT to perform cancer staging, trace metastases, simulate treatment and predict effectiveness. Subsequently, tracers with therapeutic radioisotopes (I-131, Lu-177, Y-90, Ra-223 and Sr-89, etc.) emitting high energy radiation are applied to deliver highly specific treatment and their biodistribution inside body during therapy are captured for evaluation. Cancer therapy can thus be personalized and effectively monitored to improve survival and quality of life.
Private Radiation Isolation Rooms
To ensure radiopharmaceutical quality and safety, a series of stringent tests are performed in our Quality Control Laboratory before patient use. Under the care by nuclear medicine specialists, radiographers and nurses in our private radiation isolation rooms, the safety and well-being of patients during treatment can be maximized.

Diagnostic Imaging
Siemens Biograph Vision PET/CT with onsite Cyclotrons
Hong Kong’s first PET/CT using SiPM technology was installed at our hospital in 2019, and we are the only local PET centre operating 3 units of this latest model to provide revolutionary services in cancer imaging.
With the finest detector element and the highest signal sensitivity providing the best image quality
outperforming the industry, the scanners excel in detection of early tumour, enable precise
quantification of tissue metabolism according to physiologic characteristics and molecular biochemical
properties, evaluate treatment effectiveness and contribute to new applications in theranostics and
parametric PET imaging.
Onsite radiopharmaceutical production is carried out in accordance with international guidelines including "Current Good Radio-Pharmacy Practice" (cGRPP) and "Current Good Manufacturing Practices" (cGMP). Our production suite, equipped with 4 Medical Cyclotrons, 2 Radiopharmacy Laboratories and a Quality Control Laboratory, specialises in synthesising close to 20 radiopharmaceuticals tagged with F-18, C-11 or Ga-68 for clinical use. Oncologists can obtain critical and valuable information to prescribe the most suitable treatment regime for patients.
PET/CT Simulator for Radiotherapy Treatment Planning
PET/CT Simulation is a one-stop imaging facility for both metabolic evaluation and CT simulation in radiotherapy treatment planning. The efficacy of radiotherapy relies on maximizing radiation dose to tumour and preserving normal tissues. With the variety of PET tracers available, PET/CT can delineate the metabolic boundary, quantify aggressiveness and characterize tissue functional status (e.g. cellular differentiation and hypoxia) of targeted tumour.
Our PET/CT scanner with SiPM technology, equipped with an external laser positioning system and a flat indexing pallet, has a precise spatial co-registration and an outstanding image quality. Image data in a single PET/CT scan can streamline the workflow and personalize treatment plan. Biological tumor contours and functional data on PET images can be transferred directly to CT images for dosimetric calculation and dose boosting. Not only can it be used at pre-treatment stage but also within treatment course for interim assessment and adaptive planning.
MR Simulator for Radiotherapy Treatment Planning
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is well known for providing superb soft tissue details for better tumour visualisation in cancer cases. Dedicated MR simulator allows patients being scanned under treatment position. This additionally offers excellent image matching to the planning CT, thus providing highly accurate target and organs at risk contours for treatment planning. It also ensures treatment dose being prescribed to the target volume precisely.
Siemens MAGNETOM Sola
Now available in HKSH Eastern Medical Centre, Hong Kong’s first MAGNETOM Sola is the latest model of 1.5 Tesla MRI. Equipped with BioMatrix Technology, MAGNETOM Sola can automatically adjust to patient biovariability and overcome variations in MRI examinations. It can achieve fast and reliable results with higher diagnostic confidence and consistent, high-quality personalised examinations.
With Simultaneous Multi-Slice turbo spin echo (TSE), the system supports musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging with up to 46% reduction in scan time for an entire MSK examination.
MEGNETOM sola is also specially designed for, among others, imaging and biopsy with high SNR in both diagnostic and interventional setups, making it an ideal imaging equipment for cancers.
Siemens SOMATOM Force
Unlike conventional CT scanners, SOMATOM Force can scan patients at a speed of up to 737 millimeters per second, at 0.24mm spatial resolution and at routinely low radiation dose and contrast media dose. The ultra-fast scan speed allows whole abdomen scanning in a fraction of 1 second without requiring the patients to hold breath frequently. The low-noise images with best-in-class spatial resolution enables delineation of fine details, giving doctors precise information for making accurate diagnoses.
Hologic 3 Dimensions Mammography System
Hologic 3 Dimensions system provides 3D mammographic images of higher quality and greater patient comfort during examination. This is clinically proven to have the ability to detect up to 65% more invasive breast cancers than the conventional 2D models, regardless of age or breast density. Curved compression surface mirrors the breast shape. It improves comfort without degrading image quality and increasing the time and radiation dose to patients.
Philips EPIQ 7 Premium Ultrasound Scanner
Philips EPIQ 7 Premium ultrasound system has the superb capability of creating images of optimal resolution. Its PureWave transducer technology improves penetration and provides excellent detailed resolution.
