How to take
care of my eyes?
Post-op Eye Care
- Start antibiotic and anti-inflammatory
eye drops provided according to instructions of your doctor.
Some patients may have a slight burning sensation after
instillation of eye drops.
- The bandage contact lens can usually
be removed in 3 to 5 days after surgery when the epithelium
is healed.
- Artificial tears can be used anytime
when your eyes feel dry.
- Wear eye shields for protection for
the first week while sleeping to avoid accidental trauma
to the eyes.
- Avoid using eye make-up, especially
mascara, for 1 week to reduce the chance of infection.
- Avoid exposing the eyes to soap or unclean
water for 1 week.
- Avoid swimming for 1 month.
- Wear sun-glasses for 1 month to prevent
foreign bodies from getting into the eyes and protect them
from ultraviolet light when you are outdoors.
- Avoid steam and sauna for at least
3 months.
- Avoid rubbing or contusion to the
eyes for 2 to 3 weeks.
