How is it
performed?
- Anaesthesize the eyes with eye drops.
- Place a speculum to hold the lids apart.
- Apply diluted alcohol solution for
30 seconds to loosen the edges of the epithelium and create
an epithelial flap.
- With the epithelial flap moved aside,
use an excimer laser to apply laser with cool ultraviolet
light pulses to sculpt the epithelium.
- A medicine solution (mitomycin C) may
be used to apply on the reshaped cornea for one minute
to reduce the potential haze.
- Replace the epithelial flap.
- Place a bandage contact lens on the
eye for protection and healing.
- Apply antibiotic and anti-inflammatory
eye drops.
