Possible Complications

Intraoperative

Serious complications are very rare during laser surgery. The epithelium of the cornea is painlessly lifted and this layer usually grows back very rapidly, being completely restored in 4 to 5 days.

Post-operative

It is common to experience some initial irritation or pain and light sensitivity following laser surgery. Both symptoms generally resolve quickly. Infection may occur but extremely rare. Even if it develops, infection can be treated effectively with medications. Other possible complications including corneal haze, corneal scarring, induced astigmatism, visual fluctuation, de-centered ablation, halos, over or under correction, but they are rare and treatable with medication or further surgery. Serious complications are very rare.
