A full range of endoscopy services is provided by our team of dedicated and experienced endoscopists with the use of state-of-the-art endoscopic imaging systems. Patients can choose to undergo the procedures in either out-patient or in-patient settings in a comfortable environment.

What is Endoscopy?
Endoscopy is a safe and well-tolerated procedure to look inside an organ. Under local anaesthesia and sedation, an instrument called endoscope is passed through a natural orifice of the body (such as the mouth or anus) to reach the organ to be examined. The endoscope is a long and flexible tube (the size of your little finger) with a tiny video camera and light source at the end. It is connected to a TV monitor, allowing the endoscopist (a qualified doctor who performs the endoscopy) to see the inside of the organ clearly and take tissue samples for biopsies or perform therapeutic procedures at the same time with great precision.

What is Capsule Endoscopy?
Capsule endoscopy utilizes a small wireless swallowable video camera to perform painless endoscopic imaging of the intestine. It is indicated for the following recurrent or persistent symptoms for which other diagnostic procedures failed to determine the cause:

• Abdominal pain
• Diarrhea
• Bleeding
• Anaemia

• Peptic ulcer
• Cancer of the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum
• H. pylori bacteria infection
• Gastric ulcer
• Other upper gastrointestinal tract pathologies such as polyps and varices

Therapeutic interventions:
• Removal of polyps
• Metal stenting of oesophageal cancer and dilatation
• Control of bleeding from peptic ulcer

Enteroscopy
Enteroscopy is performed to diagnose and treat problems of the small intestine, such as:
• ulcers
• benign tumours
• cancer
• vascular lesions
• Crohn’s disease

Therapeutic interventions
• removal of polyps
• control of bleeding

Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy is performed to diagnose and treat problems of the large intestine. It is useful for the diagnosis of :
• Colonic polyp
• Colon cancer
• Inflammatory bowel diseases (Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease)
• Haemorrhoids
• Diverticulosis

Therapeutic interventions
• Removal of colonic polyps to prevent colon cancer
• Metal stenting to relieve obstruction

Liver, Gall Bladder and Pancreas
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
ERCP is performed to diagnose and treat problems of the hepato-biliary-pancreatic system. It allows the endoscopists to:
• Examine the stomach and duodenum
• Inject contrast into the ducts to outline the pathology of the biliary tree and pancreas
• Obtain tissues for diagnosis

Therapeutic interventions :
• Stone extraction
• Biliary stenting
• Nasobiliary drainage
• Biliary stricture dilatation

Respiratory System
Bronchoscopy
Bronchoscopy is performed to examine the mucosal surface of the airways for abnormalities and visualize the causes of airway obstruction. It is useful for the diagnosis of:
• A variety of lung diseases
• Lung cancer
• Infectious diseases (by collecting specimens for culture)

Oesophageal Manometry
Oesophageal Manometry is a test that provides information regarding the muscle function of the upper and lower oesophageal splincters as well as peristalsis. Common indications are dysphagia, non-specific chest pain.

24 Hour PH study
24-hour PH study measures acid exposure in the esophagus over a 24-hour period. This test can accurately measure whether or not Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is present.

Anorectal Manometry
Anorectal Manometry is a test performed to evaluate patients with constipation and/ or fecal incontinence. This test measures the pressure of the anal sphincted muscles, the sensation in the rectum, and the neural reflexes that are needed for normal bowel movement.
