It is with much pleasure that I, on behalf of the Hospital Committee of the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, welcome you to the Second Multidisciplinary Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Symposium on Pain Management (MSK US PM) 2011 hosted by the Division of Pain Medicine, Department of Anaesthesiology. The symposium will focus on the Total Pain Management for patients and athletes suffering from musculoskeletal injuries and other different painful conditions.
The Symposium chair and organizing committees have prepared a comprehensive program representing the most up-to-date evidence-based and best practice-based Ultrasound guided Musculoskeletal Pain treatment approaches which may be of interest to our colleagues from all disciplines.

Chairperson Welcome message
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the organizing committee it is my honor and privilege to welcome you to
participate in the Second Multidisciplinary Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Symposium on Pain
Management (MSK US PM) 2011. With the excellent team work of the Multidisciplinary
international faculty members and organisation team with the support from pain
organisations, we had a very successful interactive symposium with very good sharing
last year. US MSKPM is having the uniqueness of combining the meeting of experts of
both Musculoskeletal ultrasound and Ultrasound for Pain management together with Multidisciplinary
involvements
We have put together a two and half day scientific program that combined focus on intense educational
activities together with clincail cases sharing with problem based learning session, real time live ultrasound
scanning demonstration by experts and more intensive separate MSK and Pain Management “hands-on”
Workshop, with special emphasis on cutting edge applications of ultrasound in sports medicine and for
Regional Anaesthesia and Chronic Pain Medicine, for the management of different musculoskeletal pain
conditions. Opinion leaders, both overseas and locally, will deliver and exchange experience in this state
of the art field of musculoskeletal and pain medicine with the uniqueness of ultrasound in providing real time
dynamic and static assessment of musculoskeletal system, enhance the better visualization of nervous and
skeletal system.
I sincerely hope the symposium will be a forum for communications, fostering understanding amongst
colleagues, musculoskeletal and pain experts in multidisciplinary pain management and for the dissemination
of new knowledge and technology that will eventually benefit our pain patients.
In addition to science, you may find the opportunity to take in Hong Kong a city of diversity, a city of life, the
energetic side with a visit to the nearby happy valley horse racing course or nearby Repulse bay and Stanley;
experience the nice walk around the Peak and Hong Kong island trail in Parkview, Hong Kong sample cuisine
in the many excellent restaurants the city has to offer making for a memorable experience. In addition, come
and view in this meeting the Lunch Chinese cultural show.
We would like to specially thank the six supporting chapters of International Associations of Study of Pain,
namely The Pain Association of Singapore, The Malaysian Association for the Study of Pain (MASP),
The Thai Association for the Study of Pain (TASP), Korean Pain Society, Chinese Association for the Study of
Pain ( CASP) and Hong Kong Pain Society as supporting organizations. Last but not the lease, we must extend
our deepest gratitude to our health industry partners, who have kindly agreed to sponsor this symposium and
also the Sportsmen of Hong Kong Multisport Association to help in the live demonstrations and workshops.
